PM Yousuf Raza Gilani Rules Out Talks with Militants

ISLAMABAD: Speaking to media representatives in Islamabad on 19 Jan, 2011
Wednesday, PM Yousuf Raza Gilani ruled out talks with militants and said the government will not make any compromises on Pakistan’s sovereignty.
He said talks will only be conducted with those militants who surrender to the government.
He further said that Pakistan was under threat from “terrorism and extremism” and that the security situation was taking a heavy toll on the country’s economy.
PM Gilani said the government enjoyed the support of a range of national and political leaders in its war against terrorism.
Responding to a question regarding the security situation in Karachi, Gilani said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) enjoys strong ties with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Awami National Party (ANP).
